Zero Waste Week is coming to SOU January 28th – February 2nd. It is a week full of fun events that promote waste habit awareness and education on how to reduce the waste that we produce. SOU became the first Oregon university to join the “Real Food Challenge” by pledging to support ecologically sustainable, humane and socially equitable food systems. The university agreed that at least 20 percent of its food budget by 2023 will be spent on “real food” rather than unhealthy products or those produced by industrial farms.
Southern Oregon University’s solar power prospects will become considerably brighter this fall, with the installations of three new photovoltaic arrays and a 57 percent increase in generating capacity.
An important step in mitigating climate change is measuring progress. SOU conducts annual greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories to monitor and track progression toward the university’s GHG reduction targets. The GHG inventory report for the 2017 fiscal year is now available.
For the seventh consecutive year, SOU Recycling and Southern Oregon Goodwill have partnered to collect unwanted goods from students as they move out of the residence halls. During this year’s collection drive, SOU students donated more than 10,400 pounds of reusable items.
