January 16, 2019
Zero Waste Week is coming to SOU January 28th – February 2nd. It is a week full of fun events that promote waste habit awareness and education on how to reduce the waste that we produce. The events lined up for Zero Waste Week include:
Our Zero Waste Challenge, where participants carry all the waste they generate throughout the week. This challenge gets participants thinking about how much they throw away and the negative impacts it has on our planet. To sign up for the challenge click this link!
The Zero Waste Week Kick Off! will showcase the Zero Waste Challenge and all of the other events that are happening during the week. We will also watch an episode from The Story Of Stuff Project that presents the “big picture” of how our items are made, consumed, and then thrown away. There will be snacks! This event will take place in the Stevenson Union Room 319 from 12:30-1:20pm on Monday, January 28th.
Also on Monday, January 28th, we will also be hosting a film screening and discussion on WALL-E! This event will dissect this iconic movie and its future depiction of our planet! There will be some yummy snacks and a discussion after the movie! Come watch Wall-E with us in the Stevenson Union Arena from 5:00-7:30pm.
On Tuesday, January 29th we are partnering with the Women’s Resource Center to provide our first ever Menstrual Cup Workshop. Come to the Stevenson Union Room 319 from 12:30-1:20 to talk about the benefits of menstrual cups as well as the general waste associated with feminine hygiene products. Also, before the event takes place please stop by the Women’s Resource Center in SU 102 so you can enter to win a FREE menstrual cup or a set of reusable pads!
Also on on Tuesday, January 29th we are partnering with the Ashland Food Co-op to bring you Eating Right for Budget and Planet which is a fun workshop to demonstrate how shopping cheap and cooking on the fly can be possible while having sustainability on the mind! There will be food! This event will take place in the Stevenson Union Room 319 from 5:30-7:00pm.
On Wednesday, January 30th from 11:00am-2:00pm in the Stevenson Union Rogue River Room, we will be hosting our first ever Repair Fair! Come by to learn life skills of how to repair common items! Join the #RepairRevolution rather than just tossing it out!
Join us on Thursday, January 31st for the first Tea-Talk in our series on Inclusion and Sustainability. We hope to learn and discuss how the two are related and how we can change the common misconceptions both of these important issues. There will be refreshments! This event will be in the Stevenson Union Room 319 from 12:30-1:20pm.
On Friday, February 1st at 12:30-1:20pm in the Stevenson Union Room 319, we will be hosting the Zero Waste Week Challenge Wrap Up where students, faculty, and staff who participated in the Challenge can weigh their waste and reflect on their experience. Prizes will be handed out at the end of the event!
