The Xerces Society, a non-profit environmental organization that focuses on the conservation of invertebrates considered to be essential to biological diversity reported that 40% of pollinator species on earth are at risk of extinction in the coming years as a result of habitat loss, the use of harmful pesticides, and climate change.

Leslie is a professor in the Environmental Science and Policy Department at SOU. She got her BA from Stanford University, with a major in Cultural and Social Anthropology and a minor in Psychology.
