Ever noticed the parking spots by Greensprings and the Hawk on Wightman that say “Zipcars Only”?

Well, what is a Zipcar? A Zipcar is a car that belongs to SOU that students can rent for as little as 1 hour, to as long as 7 days! When you become a memer of Zipcar, gas, and insurance for the car are covered. It’s a great way to get around the Rogue Valley in an affordable and safe way!

How it works: Either download the Zipcar App or log in on their website https://www.zipcar.com/universities/southern-oregon-university and they’ll send you a Zipcard to access vehicles world-wide, including ours on campus!

Next, reserve your car. SOU has two options of vehicles: 
• A Ford Focus Sedan with 4 doors and 5 seat belts. This car’s name is Federico! It is a medium capacity car and can carry bikes with wheel off and has automatic transmission. Monday–Thursday it costs $7.50/hour or $69 per day and Friday–Sunday it costs $8.50/hour or $77 daily.
• The other car is a Volkswagen Golf. This car’s name is Goat! Also a 4-door, 5-seat belt, automatic transmission vehicle, that has a medium capacity and can carry bikes with wheel off. This car is a hatchback and Monday–Thursday costs $8.50/hour or $69 daily. On Friday– Sunday it costs $9.50/hour and $77 per day.

Once you have rented your car, either give your phone app a tap or take the physical card and hold it up to the car’s windshield and it will be all yours! After you’re done using the car just park it back in the Zipcar spaces in lot 3 by Greensprings on Wightman and lock it up via the app or Zipcard!

The affordability of this service is just too good to pass up! Students 18 years old or older can get a Zipcar membership for just $15, plus the hourly/daily fee for the car! Students with an international driver’s license are also welcome to drive. There is no need to worry about fuel, inside each car is a gas card that you can use to fill up at any gas station and Zipcar will take care of the fee!
