SOU’s Rogue Earth Day 2023

On Friday April 21st, 2023 from 3:30 – 7 pm, at The Farm at SOU, join Southern Oregon University and community partners for exhibits, live performances, an electric vehicle showcase, bike rodeo, art, food trucks, and more, all in celebration of Earth Day!

Event Details

Entertainment & Activities

Live entertainment will be featured throughout the event on The Farm’s Thalden Pavilion stage. 2022 performances included Elbow Room Taiko, The Creekside Strings, the Oregon Center for the Arts’ Salsa Band, and more! Check back in April 2023 for a complete lineup and schedule of performances for this year’s event!

Ashland Food Co-op will be hosting a “Play Zone” in the ScienceWorks plaza, where there will be activities for all ages! Chalk art, games, and more!

Siskiyou Oregon Hybrid & Electric Vehicle Association (SOHEVA) members will display their EV’s at the electric vehicle showcase, and answer questions on their electric driving experiences. Green Cars of Lithia Motors will offer test drives/rides for a true EV experience. Register to participate!

Kids of all ages who bring their bike to the event can take a spin around the “Bike Rodeo” hosted by RVTD. Learn and practice bike safety and ride the course!

Need a break from all the action? A quiet zone will be located in the ScienceWorks geodesic dome. Earplugs, snacks, seating, and quiet activities are available for anyone that needs a more relaxing atmosphere.

Volunteer with The Farm at SOU to help with planting and weeding spring crops.

More than thirty community organizations and sustainability minded businesses will be hosting exhibits featuring education and opportunities for action. Many will also participate in the “Earth Day Ecoquest” where you can win prizes for completing activities at designated booths!

LEARN ABOUT EXHIBITS & ECOQUEST

ScienceWorks

ScienceWorks Hands-On Museum, The Farm’s next-door neighbor and a valued partner of SOU, is offering extended hours (open until 7:00pm) and free afternoon admission on the day of the event! ScienceWorks is fun for all ages!

Food

Multiple food truck vendors will be on site selling food! Check back in April for a list of vendors.

Location, Parking, and Transportation

The Farm at SOU is located at 155 Walker Avenue, Ashland Oregon.

Please help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and walk, bike, skateboard or take transit to this event!

Parking information will be updated closer to the event. On-site parking for people with disabilities or limited mobility will be available, as well as on-site “bike valets” offering secure bicycle parking.

If you walk, bike, or carpool to the event, stop by the Rogue Valley Transportation District (RVTD) exhibit, and you can get *two* bonus Ecoquest tokens to be used toward Ecoquest prizes!

More than thirty community organizations and sustainability minded businesses will host educational and fun exhibits throughout the event.

Ecoquest

Visit ecoquest exhibitors and earn tokens toward ecoquest prizes! A number of exhibitors will be participating in the optional Earth Day Ecoquest, a tradition that has been passed down from the former Rogue Valley Earth Day organizers. Ecoquest exhibitors will include an interactive educational activity at their booth for an “all ages” audience. The activity may be a short game, trivia, easy craft project, or other activity that encourages learning related to the environment, sustainability, or social justice. Participants will be able to earn tokens for completing Ecoquest activities that can earn them prizes.

The Earth Day Extravaganza offers a unique opportunity to engage with the community and share opportunities for action and education for the health of our planet and people. Exhibits should be related to environmental conservation, climate change adaptation/mitigation, sustainability, sustainable living, and/or social justice and equity.
