Sustainability Southern Oregon University
At Southern Oregon University (SOU), we promote sustainable transportation options and provide electric vehicle charging. We strive to improve commute transport related greenhouse gas emissions for staff, student and faculty, increase number of electric vehicle charging stations on campus and achieve 100% electric campus fleet
SOU provides convenient EV charging to support students, employees, and visitors who choose cleaner transportation. Our commuter charging stations are designed for “topping up” — giving drivers enough additional range to comfortably complete their daily commute, rather than serving as a primary charging location. To keep the program sustainable, SOU maintains a rate structure that covers the full cost of equipment, maintenance, and electricity, ensuring reliable and accessible charging for our campus community.
For students living on campus, SOU also offers free dedicated residential EV charging stalls where overnight, full charging is available.
SOU continues to evaluate and monitor the use of our electric vehicle charging stations charges to inform expansion of the infrastructure.
Commuter locations:
Parking Lot 27 (adjacent to Science Hall):
Parking Lot 1 (adjacent to The Hawk Dining Hall, and Lithia Motors Pavilion)
Residential locations
Student and Family Housing
SOU has the ambitious goal to operate a campus fleet that is one hundred percent electric. SOU is steadily replacing older gasoline, or diesel powered fleet vehicles with new electric models. Working closely with the facilities team, we evaluate when gas or diesel powered fleet vehicles can be replaced and find a suitable electric replacement
Ride-Share – Connect with fellow SOU commuters and others on your route easily through the GetThereOregon.org website. Sign up with your SOU email, log your commutes, and look out for chances to win prizes through annual events!
